1. EDITORIAL – It’s a NEW Year
It’s been a long, long, while since the band has had such an early,
and energetic, start to a New Year so it’s pleasing to be able to
say that, this year, it’s been all systems go since the first week
of January. In fact, when one peruses the band’s records there has
only been one year in our history that we have played a gig in
January. In the vast majority of years that first gig has not been
before March of any given year. In 2001, however, we did play a gig
on 20 January but that’s all of six years ago. Our first gig this
year will be the second “earliest” of all time as we’ll be rocking
the Don next Friday, 26 January, 2007. This is a promising start to
the year and it will hopefully mean lots of gigging to come.
And what have we in store for party goers next Friday night? The
most exciting thing, I guess, is the amount of new material that has
been added to our selection. Sure, we’ve retained plenty of the old
favourites but we’ve rolled out plenty of new songs, some old, some
new…some borrowed, some blue…as Slade were at one time taken to
declare!
Then there’ll be the usual “Party Animal” and spot prizes so, if
you’re in or close to Oranjemund, pitch up next Friday night and
take advantage of the warmer summer weather, good music and great
company for what promises to be a serious party to round off January
2007! Oh yes, we still charge an inflation-beating entry fee of
N$10.00 per head unless, of course, you’re visibly wearing a Bedrock
Supporter’s shirt. “Visibly wearing” means it must be on top of your
clothes and not underneath them!!
In the meanwhile, if you feel like dropping us a line please feel
free to do so at: sandmaster@ananzi.co.za
2. BEDROCK Goes On-Line
Long-standing friends and supporters of the band will know that our
music has been available as digital downloads at CDBaby and Tower
Records for some time. What has been missing, however, is the same
service being available to our local fans. The good news is that
this how now been rectified as Bedrock has joined up with Cape
Town’s Rhythm Records!
“So, Where’s The Party?” is presently available and “Recovery” will
be following shortly.
As a result you can purchase our songs as digital downloads, track
by track, through Rhythm Records. Consumers are charged N$6.00 per
track download which, for Bedrock’s unique brand of music, is a pure
and utter steal!!
Two of the leading characters in Rhythm Records are the SA Rock
Digest’s former editor, Sugar Segerman, and SA Rock Files guru,
Brian Currin. Both Sugar and Brian have always championed local
music, particularly independent artists. They were incredibly
supportive of Bedrock in our really early days when we were even
bigger “nobodies” than we are today, so they deserve all our support
in their continuing efforts to promote and sustain local “mellows”.
So, drop into their website at: www.rhythmrecords.co.za and start
buying your downloads!
3. BEDROCK Joins MySpace
As you will know, Bedrock has never been a band to shy away from
technology, and so it is that we have now joined the MySpace craze
which is presently sweeping the globe. MySpace is a magnificent
networking tool, guaranteed to lead to plenty of new connections and
opportunities essential for any band or artist. Our MySpace site has
all the info about the band one might require, together with our
gigs dates, downloads of four songs and a slideshow of band
activities.
Please pop along to MySpace Music at: www.myspace.com/bandinthesand
and see what you think!
4. WEBSITE UPDATES
Apologies to all our regular website visitors for the fact that the
site is running a few weeks out of date. This is largely due to the
fact that our uploads can only be done from Cape Town. As a result,
there’s a bit of a lag but it shouldn’t ever be more than a
fortnight or so in arrears. Please bear with us!!
5. TALES (& WHISPERS) FROM THE GIGGING CIRCUIT
Let’s just repeat last month’s rumours because we’re still spreading
them…
Rumour has it that Bedrock will be seen next year at places as far
afield as Luderitz, Keetmanshoop, Rosh Pinah and Windhoek, just to
mention a few. These also a suggestion that material for the eagerly
awaited new CD is progressing well. Ssssshhhhhh….don’t say too
much….and just watch this space!
6. BEDROCK MERCHANDISE
Don’t forget that BEDROCK music and merchandise make stunning gifts
– so, if you’re still at a loose end as to what to get that special
person in your life, look no further. CD’s, caps and supporters’
shirts are all available through our website – just drop us a line
at sandmaster@ananzi.co.za.
