It’s always been the case that when one door of opportunity
closes,
another one opens and we’ve discovered that ourselves once
again.
The door that closed in this case was Dave MacMillan’s recent
departure
from the band leaving us with the quandary as to whether to find
or a
replacement, or to continue as a trio. Never let it be
underestimated what
hard work playing as a three piece can be. Notwithstanding this
aspect,
and after a brief period of reflection (could have been all of
five minutes or so!),
we decided to “take the bull by the horns” and persist as a
trio. Since making
that decision things have been really exciting and our energy
levels seem to be
higher than they’ve been for some time. We, of course, have
always known
that it is possible to play as a threesome – after all, there
have been periods
of time in the band’s existence that we have played as a trio,
usually during
the times we’ve been looking for replacement members. Having
said that,
we were also victorious in the 2001 “Battle Of The Band”
contest as a three
piece when Mike was indisposed. So, we were pretty confident that,
with
some clever re-arrangement of our existing playlist, as well as
good song
selection in the case of new material, we’d be able to crack it.
We’ve also
worked hard at fattening our sound and getting it exactly right.
Naturally,
we’ve made a couple of extra purchases of technology and we
think we’re
well on the way to developing a really good product, sound-wise.
Things
were put to the test when we debuted as a three piece last Friday
at The Don.
It was an immensely satisfying occasion as, bar a couple of early
sound
adjustments early in the evening, we played as well, and as
tightly, as we
have for a long time. So, BEDROCK the trio has been well and truly
launched
so make sure you catch us when we’re next in your neighbourhood.
You will
not be disappointed – and you’ll enjoy a damned good party,
too!

· Into The Tower Records Catalogue
As a result of the American cyber store which carries our stock,
CDBaby, linking with Britain’s Tower Records, Bedrock’s
releases are now also available through the Tower records
catalogue. Would be quite nice if someone would buy some now!
· Windhoek Festival Date Changes
As mentioned in our last letter, we are booked to perform a one
hour set at this years inaugural Windhoek Festival. The organiser’s
have, however, had to change the original dates to accommodate
requests from the sponsors. The new dates are 31 October – 2
November, 2003. At this stage we’ll be performing on the late
afternoon/evening of Saturday 01 November, 2003. The event is
already receiving wide media coverage in Namibia, including a
front page article in Die Republikein saying that the event
promises to be the “Mother of all parties”. We’re obviously
calling on all our Windhoek friends and supporters to put in an
appearance – so, come on folks, ring that date on your calendars
NOW and give us a loud roar of support on 01 November!
· Darling Date Change
As with the Windhoek Festival dates, the Darling gig date has also
had to be changed as the result of a request from the organisers.
We will now be appearing in Darling on the night of Saturday, 06
December, 2003. So, once again, ring the date on your calendars,
book yourselves into one of that charming little village’s fine
Bed & Breakfast establishment and rock the night away on the
sixth!! Don’t forget that Darling has much, much, more to offer
than just Bedrock. Evita Se Perron is, itself, worth spending time
at just absorbing the atmosphere and information and the area is
known for its flowers and there are other activities – like wine
routes and cheese producing – nearby. There so much discover in
the area that a full weekend’s barely enough to see it all.
· Gigging About
Some noteworthy gigs that we have coming up, and which are open to
the public, include:
Ø Sunday 21 September – Oranjemund Golf Club (Nashua Sponsored
Day)
Ø Friday 3 October – The Don
Ø Saturday 18 October – Oranjemund Golf Club
Ø Saturday 1 November – Windhoek Festival
Ø Saturday 6 December – Evita Se Perron, Darling
